Limits and Continuity

Imagine you're walking towards a candy jar. As you get closer, you can see more and more of the candies inside, but you never actually touch the jar – you just get closer and closer. A limit in math is like that: it tells us what value a function is getting closer to as we get closer to a certain point. Just like you getting closer to the candy jar but not touching it, the function gets closer to a number but doesn't always reach it. Below is an illustration to help visualize this idea:


In this picture, think of the path to the candy jar as the path to a limit. As you walk closer, you see more details, just like how a function gets closer to a specific value.
